Went up to Brum last weekend (19th Nov 2022) to help BMO celebrate its 1st birthday at Centrala Space, alongside livesets from John Biddulph, Steckdose, RBMK, Michael Lightborne, Sketchbot and Cries from the LTN. Awesome analogue video synthesis visuals from Laura Putty Rubber, Chromatouch and Lightborne Jake.
My set-up was housed in a foldable double modular case for the first time. Big moves! I have loved the Innalog but this new iteration is a huge improvement in power capacity, ease of set-up and ability to transport things one-handed :-))))
Had an emotional one bringing the first iteration of this monologue / live music gig / modular laser fest, all about mothering and daughtering TO LIFE at SPILL Think Tank on Thursday 20 October 2022. Great feedback from the audience. So many women sought me out after the show for a chat and to share their experiences and tell me what resonated with them, and people came with their daughters / mothers / grandmothers! It was all just VERY VERY VERY LOVELY. Loved one comment that I was driving them on a journey through space. 😁😁😁
I have a brand new 30-minute show entitled ‘perception is a mutual embrace’ debuting at SPILL Think Tank in IPSWICH on Thursday 20 October. It’s extremely FRESH (I finally wrote it all down on Monday night!), though I’ve been pondering this material and this format for years. Featuring spoken word, synths, and benjolin + laser visuals, it’s centres on mothering & daughtering, and the intersection between knowledge and chaos. There’ll be a Q&A before, and DJs afterwards.

I’ll be presenting some pieces acousmatically (if that’s a word!) from ‘Florescence’ in spatial sound using all the software i was hooked to during my BEAST Dome residency back in July. Thanks to the Birmingham Electroacoustic Soundsystem, Dr Annie Mahtani at the Uni of Birmingham Music Dept and Sound UK for supporting the 4-day residency!
BEAST also welcomes Iranian electronics composer and performer, Hadi Bastani, for the opening concert of the 2022/23 season. We will be joined by a selection of current students who will present their own latest pieces.
I love when something like this turns up in my inbox. Until now, I wasn’t familiar with Loula Yorke’s work, but Florescence is an expansive exploration of synthetic shapes and changing landforms. Pulled together from a series of improvisations done in the first half of 2022, Yorke stitches together looping arpeggios and synth sequences into emotive reflections of a changing world. Crystalline tonescapes bounce around at shifting tempos and use pointed timbres to escape into the tiniest slivers. Yorke pairs vocal incantations with twisting, rhythmic glorp to create ethereal alien soundscapes, melting them straight into saturated cosmic specters. The sequencing on Florescence is fantastic, adding a chronological narrative feel throughout, as though we’re seeing this new world for the first time. My track Sun Spurge has now finished its run as part of the Festival of New Sound Walk on the main lawn at Snape Maltings, and has been installed as part of the Bayfield Hall Sculpture Trail in Norfolk. The trail is open 5th – 30th October 2022, Wed – Sun, 10 – 5pm.
Visitors to the site will be able to walk through 3 acres of grounds, woodland and wild gardens to view the work of over 40 artists from across the UK.
The first Bayfield Hall Sculpture Trail features 40 artists, sculptors, musicians and makers in the beautiful gardens and grounds of Bayfield Hall near Holt. The trail is curated by Sarah Cannell and Fiona Roberts with kind permission to use the private gardens and chapel by Caroline and Roger Combe. An uplifting, inspiring natural space for people to experience contemporary art in a beautiful rural setting in North Norfolk.
Some works have been created specifically for the space – such as new music recorded by internationally acclaimed musicians Laura Cannell (Norfolk) and Seattle-based Lori Goldston (Earth / Nirvana MTV Unplugged) from their forthcoming duo album, and beautiful bespoke slate sculptures and tables by Cornwall-based artist Stacey Beaumont.
Some works are on tour from the hugely successful Raveningham Sculpture Trail, which happens annually over the summer in South Norfolk, including The Tree of Life by artist/illustrator Cindy Lee Wright, and the Flaming Marsh Ponies collaborative project between Sarah Cannell, Rachael Long and Andy Jarrett.
I was part of an hour-long Oram’s Special on the mighty Lou Barnell’s #INPROCESS show on Repeater Radio alongside Vicky Clarke and Una Lee earlier this month. This Thursday, Lou is screening Una Lee’s beautiful work ‘Down Gone’, and my films for Bee Orchid and Aaron’s Rod from my brand new album FLORESCENCE, which came out on Friday.

Really stoked to have been chosen by Deaf performance artist Chisato Minamimura to collaborate with her on a short piece which we’ll making during her Snape Residency next week. We’ll be looking at how to visualise soundscapes for a Deaf audience using visual vernacular and film!
INPUT:OUTPUT is a performance experiment that looks at ways to make music a more inclusive experience. Chisato’s collaborative, deaf-led approach challenges assumptions about who can create soundscapes and what musical performances may look, sound, or feel like from a deaf perspective.
The finished 10-minute piece will be presented as a film for Festival of New at Snape Maltings, Suffolk, on 10 September 2022, alongside a talk by Jennifer Lucy Allan about visualising sound, and a presentation by Chisato of some her own previous work.
